******THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED******

I’m so excited this week to tell you about this awesome giveaway!

The folks at Cutting Edge Stencils were nice enough to send me a stencil to try and review. I couldn’t be happier to share the results with you!

Using the stencil was easier than I thought it would be. I don’t have a steady hand per say, but I was pleasantly surprised at the crisp lines I was able to get without too much effort. CES provides detailed instructions which yield the best results. The recommended supplies are:

  • Foam roller with rounded edges (available through Cutting Edge or at your local hardware store)
  • Clean rag or paper towel for wiping off excess
  • Paper plate
  • Acrylic paint
  • Level (Cutting Edge has an awesome clip on one you can purchase)
  • Painter’s tape

Grab a cereal box or a piece of cardboard to practice your technique. I was in the process of painting the hallway upstairs so I just practiced up there. Using painters tape, secure the stencil to the surface. The directions specify to use a small amount of paint at a time, making sure to do a quick roll on a towel to remove any excess paint. Using medium pressure, roll over each area evenly. Cutting Edge sent me this smaller sample stencil which I used to test my skills.

Fairly confident in the technique, I hung my Casablanca stencil in the corner of the wall and used the clip on level to make sure it was plumb.

You may need two coats, but just take your time. Stenciling is not difficult but it is a bit time consuming! Moving along the wall, it’s easy to line the stencil up by using your just completed work as a guide.

Once you finish all the whole pieces, you can go back and fill in the gaps. Probably the best part about stenciling is the instant gratification. As soon as you pull off the stencil you can see your gorgeous handiwork!

{Super love}

(ignore the fact that I ran out of paint and didn’t do the top row by the ceiling yet)

I’ve received so many compliments since I stenciled this wall! Everyone thinks it’s designer wall paper. But the best part is that I can reuse my stencil if we ever move, or even for other projects (I’m thinking a large  stenciled floor cloth….). Here’s a little peek at a project my friend Amy is working on using my stencil.

Oh but now here’s the best part!

Now YOU have a chance to get a stencil of your very own! Cutting Edge Stencils is offering a $40 credit towards any stencil of your choice with FREE shipping!

Marissa- The base color that was already on the wall is Behr’s Burnished Clay. I used those little bottles of acrylic craft paint (at AC Moore) in a metallic pearl for the stencil. Thanks for entering!

Thank you for entering Janet, I’ll come check out your blog! I used a metallic pearl paint- those acrylic craft paints you find at Michael or AC Moore. I can’t remember the brand but they are in the tiny bottles. I used 5 of them! If I was doing a whole room I would have probably gotten a quart of regular house paint, there are a few brands that make metallics.

It is so funny that I stumbled across this giveaway today. I just added CES to my favorites list Friday as I got this bright idea to stencil instead of wallpaper. After all, stenciling can just be painted over again instead of going through the painstaking process of wallpaper removal. Also the stencil can be used over and over again and you can choose whatever colors you want. I fell in love with the Damask Verde and Damask Birds of Paradise and can’t decide which I like better (I think Verde would be my choice). Either way winning anything from CES would be fabulous.

I’ve visited CES … tons of lovely stencils … but this is an easy choice, I would pick the “Ultimate Mural Stencil Kit” {http://www.cuttingedgestencils.com/mural-stencils.html?category_id=1005} … we are restoring an early 20th century colonial home with plaster walls that have been covered with HORRIBLE wallpaper … once the wallpaper is down I can see the entire grand foyer done in a handpainted {stenciled} mural … possibly extending into the formal dining room … eeek, I’m getting excited just thinking about it ; )

Thank you for hosting a terrific giveaway … I’m keeping my stenciling fingers crossed!

It’s Burnished Clay (the base color and color throughout the downstairs) stenciled with white metallic craft paint (I think it was Folk Art brand). No top coat needed!

I love the RABAT Allover Stencil. It offers a subtle elegance that would be just perfect in our master bedroom. As first time homebuyers we are slightly hesitant to undertake any major decorating projects but I know that my husband and I could handle this and be really proud of the work we are putting in to our first home together!
