So I had a hot date with the steamiest guy in town, and boy did he impress me. So much so, that it prompted me to Instagram (@lovelycrafty, btw) this photo of the real life “McSteamy.”

Also doubles as a self portrait #creeper. Anywhoo, back to my date. So, the nice folks at HomeRight offered to set me up with this McSteamy character, and of course I said “YES!” right away. I mean just look at that sleek body. Am I right, or am I right?

So the SteamMachine arrives at my house, and I call my BFF over for some good clean fun :) We open the box and take out all the parts, quickly decide to tackle the grout in my bathroom, and start setting up the mop attachment.

Hmmmm….

At first we thought we were missing a bunch of pieces. But then we noticed they were inside a little cubby on the actual unit! I snapped on the elbow piece and turned the power on. It takes a few minutes to warm up, but there is an indicator light to tell you when it’s ready. I didn’t take a lot of pictures of this process because we were literally squealing with delight over the steamy jet engine-like sound. The SteamMachine has got some power, for sure. The attachments are all really easy to figure out, so I’ll spare you the details that can be found in the manual. You just squeeze the trigger, and steam billows out :) After a quick mop, we decided to see if the smaller brush attachments would be better to really clean the grout lines themselves. Now, I’m about to show you a before picture- and you better not judge me. My floor is clean, ok? I sweep and mop regularly. But I do not scrub my grout.

Grout is one of those things that you just get used to looking a certain way. Like all of the sudden, I just had dark tan grout…that must be the original color, right? Go check your grout right now and tell me what color it was when you moved in :P

I am seriously disgusted at myself. This experience felt a little bit like when the Kirby vacuum man came to my house and showed me all the filth my old vacuum was leaving behind. I was horrified! So horrified, that in my vulnerable state I took a video of the SteamMachine blowing the dirt from the grout for all the world to see.

Terrifying, isn’t it? But after it was all said and done, and the grout had dried…I couldn’t believe the difference.

    We have lived in our house for over 10 years and the very first thing I would tackle would be the Master Bathroom. The caulk around the tub, the flooring, the faucets, you name it, I would have it steamed.

    Hi Rachael,
    I too have a home that is almost one hundred years old.
    Having a streamer to tackle dirt in a efficient and environmentally friendly way is always a good way to approuch cleaning when possible.
    But I also love, love love, gadgets. This could be my source of entertainment for the month.
    As you can see it doesn’t take much to squelch boredom.
    You should have seen me when I got my hand sander.
    I did two bedroom floor, myself.
    I had visions of using the large industrial sander, Lossing control over it, flying out the window, and obligerateing my backyard to saw dust.
    What a night mare.
    I read my emails everyday, for some reason I prefer it to using a phone.
    This way my friends and I drop a little note or a funny to each other every other day.

    I would tackle my grout first and then my father’s shower and bathrooms. He (and the house) are older so they need some up keep. (I wouldn’t steam HIM…though it might do him some good–hehehe)!

    I cleaned all the grout in my kitchen about 6 months ago. It took me DAYS, and it already looks gross again. I would love for Mr. McSteamy to come live at my house and help me with my grout issues.

    You know what? They sent me one to review, as well, and I am going to be doing a giveaway, too! And wouldn’t you know I emailed them, as well, and was like, “I didn’t get the attachments!!!” They emailed back and said they were in the little compartment! I think that’s such a cool idea, but there should DEFINITELY be something to point out to consumers that the attachements are stored on-board, you know? I have used it to clean the little stinky toilets of my sons and OMG, LOVE IT!!!! I can’t wait to use it to remove wallpaper and clean my kitchen floor! Your grout looks awesome!

    The first thing I would tackle, my sons bathroom. OMG what is wrong with boys and hitting the bowl. I aways feel kinda bad using harsh chemicals but if I don’t I don’t feel its clean. So thats what I would use it for. lol

    Well, the first thing I may try to tackle is the tracks of our patio door, then perhaps some carpet stains, then bathroom tiles and caulk…… The list is endless. it isn’t only boys missing the toilet. I have three young girls, yuck!
