Part of blogging about your own home is that things are constantly changing. Furniture is rearranged, walls are painted and re-painted until finally something clicks and ends up in the “permanent” category.

Take my dining room for example…it’s gone through SO many changes. Here are some flashbacks.

I finally got the chairs and hutch looking acceptable, but there was always a problem of hiding the printer (which for wiring reasons basically had to be in the dining room or in the basement…and I’m too lazy to go down to the basement). I thought it would fit inside the bottom of the hutch, but it just a little too deep for the cabinet. UGH. So it sat on the floor in the corner to the left, which I conveniently try to leave out of photos.

But I finally think I’ve found a corner arrangement that both hides the printer and looks nice :)

It’s an old sewing table that I refinished, which makes a nicer stand for my plant and gives the plate arrangement some company. Then I bought a piece of lace-ish fabric at Joann’s, hemmed the bottom, and stapled it in pleats to the underside of the table. I’m pretty sure you could guess what’s underneath…

Have you ever used a table skirt before?

    Oh my gosh, I totally would have vetoed the idea of the skirt under a table like that in theory, but in reality it is totally cute! Not too… well, for lack of a better descriptor, too much. It’s really nice, and a great way to hide those random electronics (mine’s the wifi!). Love it!

    I love a good table skirt. I have one in my crafty room that hides the kitty litter box under a bar height work table. As far as I am concerned, table skirts are way under-rated. Applying “Beyonce” logic here seems appropriate: “If you like it then you’d better put a skirt on it! OH-OH-OH OH-OH-Uh-OH!”

    I really appreciate this post. Today I’m feeling a bit discouraged with the progress of our home of one year. There is so much unfinished. finishing is YEARS off. seeing that your dining room has been in progress for a few years is exactly what I needed to see today. it gave me permission to let things evolve slowly. thank you.
